Everyday Magic

Prayer

A white piece of paper with a hand-drawn in ink picture of praying hands. The hands are interlocked like you see in the beginning of 'here is the church, here is the steeple' game that christian kids play with their hands. Above the hands are the words 'prayer' with stink lines coming up from the letters.

Friend, keep your hand on my shoulder.
Don't pray for me
as I enter black water,
that place where words fail.
Can you dare believe
the prayer I need is you?
And if I should rise,
sputtering and gasping,
will you steady me?
Hold my hand and ready me
to walk in lighter gravity?
